Grandma in town

Whenever Tyson's mom comes to town we always know that a couple of things will take place...fun dinners, ice cream sundaes, Target runs so that Sawyer can pick out some toys, and breakfast at Panera. This time we had all day friday, and with the HEAT that we live in we had to plan something to do inside. So, we decided to take Sawyer to his first movie at the movie theater...Up!
Sawyer insisted on wearing his scout hat and batman backpack, filled with treats, so that he could look like the little boy Russell in the movie. He was so excited when we walked in, and kept saying every few seconds...Mom, this is the MOVIES! It was so cute. He of course had to get some candy from the bins, and grandma even got popcorn.
I thought for sure I would be embarrassed in the middle of the movie when Sawyer would get bored and start to get chit chatty , but he loved the whole experience and I basically never heard a peep from him... except when he noticed that Russell wasn't wearing his hat and wanted to know where his scout hat went. I swear if this scout obsession keeps up I am going to have an eagle scout in a few years.
That night we went to Yard House for a massive selection of appetizers which is one of our favorite things to do
and then to B & J's for some ice cream. Sawyer wasn't accomplishing much with his spoon so he decided to drink what had melted like a shake.
Now on to the new treat from Target. A Buzz Lightyear Kite. Normally Sawyer has no idea what he wants when Grandma takes him to Target and he is back and forth for way to long deciding between the motorcycle and car that he always loves. But this time he knew in advance that he wanted a kite. I was excited too because where we live tends to be a little windy in the spring/summer and so at least we could find some enjoyment with it.
It only took about 5 minutes to watch the kite's handle fly out of Tyson's hands, and quickly into our neighbors backyard. No big deal we thought, Tyson can just hop the wall and go get it. If only it would have been that easy. Instead we found ourselves with brooms and ladders as we got one part of the kite in one yard, and the rest of it on the roof of another neighbors house. Let me just say that we really love our son because it was hot and humid, I was sweating like crazy and it took about an hour to get it back. If only we could have just sucked up the 7 dollars to go buy a new one.

Ward Campout

Am I allowed to say that this was my first real camping experience even if we didn't spend the night? I guess I am at least half way there, especially when we had every intention of spending the night until we found out that no one we knew had a tent for us to borrow, and lets be honest that would not have been an investment for me. So without a tent, or even our own set of chairs, we stopped for a fast food dinner and went up the windy mountain to Hurkey Creek. Once we were through the windy part of the drive I was in heaven. I watched the temperature gage drop in my car and couldn't have been more excited to actually feel cold...and to wear my juicy suit in June. Was this a meant to be a secret that we live less than an hour from cold?
We got there with a perfect amount of light to enjoy the scenery, and spend a little bit of time chatting. Then of course were the smores, one of the reasons we were there, and a great spiritual thought. We almost for a minute regretted not being able to stay and spend the night, but then quickly changed our minds as we watched Ross setting up his tent for what felt like hours. Then of course there were our own warm beds and showers to come home to at just the right time. Maybe one day we will attempt the actual "camping", after a great and short first experience.

the best book

I am not normally the type to love a book so much that I have to read it all in one day. Not even Twilight got me that attached. But I would have to say that when I started reading this yesterday afternoon I became quickly obsessed. Luckily for me Sawyer was a little sick and so he took an unusually long four and a half hour nap. By the time he woke up I was hooked and didn't want to put it down. I do have to say that I didn't actually finish it yesterday because sometimes my family and the bachelorette gets in the way of things, but I was up bright and early this morning to finish...This is such a great book, and I was so glad to discover on the last page that there will be a second book.

vegas...

Although I am usually considered a little white trash for my love for vegas with all the smoke, sluts, drunks, and scary billboards...I do love it. Especially the fact that that means a weekend away from being a Mom, and a few full days of sun, shopping and food.
The first night we started our eating with cafe rio. Could there be any better food? Its worth every ounce of stomach ache I get later on.
Then a little stroll through the shops at Caesars Palace. I honestly think the boys enjoyed themselves more than we did with all the jewelry/watch stores.
Then we waited like fourty five mintues,
and enjoyed sweet Serendipity.

One day the boys joined us at the pool for an afternoon which was nice
and then back to Serendipity for our new favorite dessert...Fried Oreo Sundae. I have never tasted anything better in my life, and I don't even really like oreos.

thanks again to my Mom and Dad who are always so willing to take Sawyer for us, even when he is experiencing a little bit of the terrible two's right now.

Memorial Weekend..or should I say Laker Weekend

Now that it is the Laker playoff time I don't think there is really anything else that is on Tyson's mind. Although I feel like I lose the attention of my husband for a few months, Sawyer loves to watch the games too, and I have found a new love for my bedroom with the door closed and no one bothering me. I get to watch my own shows with no comments, and read my books in total peace and quiet, except for the occasional yelling and chanting through out the house. Taylor and Melanie were in town this weekend and so Saturday night we had a family Laker party at out house.

Monday the boys closed the store early and we headed to Gary's for a BBQ, some pool ball for the boys/ laying out for the girls, and of course...another Laker game. I always love it when the family gets together!

Sawyer and Jeffrey have become great friends. They have really similar "homec" personalities and just run around playing and laughing together for hours. Jeffrey really is Sawyers favorite uncle!

LA...our favorite place to be

So Tyson had a few work things that he needed to do downtown, I thought why not join him instead of sitting at home wishing it was a normal temperature outside. I'd rather sit in the car for half the day and have the other half to enjoy shopping, food, and nice weather. We started in downtown so Tyson could get work over with. Sawyer and I just walked around and snacked a bit while we waited. Then it was off to the airport to fulfill Sawyers everyday dream of going back to see the airplanes in LA. He probably asks us at least a few times a week if we could go to the airport in LA, he even says he'd rather go their than Disneyland. Don't ask me who my child is. We got In n Out and had a little picnic on the grass while Sawyer danced, played, and watched the planes come in. Then back in the car again for my favorite place...the Grove. I got to do a little Nordstrom sale shopping while the boys got treats, played in the fountains, and rode the trolley. Seriously, if I could live anywhere LA would be the place. We absolutely love it there.

Sometimes the planes are a little too loud.

Our favorite treats!

family

One of the things that I am most grateful that I learned from my parents would probably be the importance of family. I have been lucky enough to not only have a great family of my own, but a great extended family as well. I have grown up spending a lot of time with all of them, and loving each of them individually for different reasons. This weekend one of my cousins got married and it was a great weekend to all be together. We had the wedding, birthdays, and mothers day. There is no place I would have rather been.
Friday night we all got together at some Mexican restaurant in Pasadena before Johanna's reception
me with grandma and roy
Craig and family, its my favorite to have Sarah at every family function on both sides

the Temple, or castle as Sawyer would call it

Grandma with Sawyer and Papa
my family minus Tyson, I think he is missing more than he is actually there
the boys relaxing after a mothers day lunch
Happy Birthday to Tyler!

our most recent happenings

I feel like lately I don't have time for any of my extra, but regular obsessions... like my numerous tv shows that I LOVE, the baking in search of my new favorite recipes, cleaning my house(an obsession for the results that follows the cleaning), and my blogging which makes me feel like I am just keeping up with my life. The real question is what exactly am I doing, I have no idea...there is just no time. But of course there is always time for Sawyer. Tantrums, funny comments, bossing me around, singing, airplane flying, newly wanting to swim and go potty on the little potty. He only likes the little portable potty, and constantly reminds me the big potty is scary because he says he might fall in. I love the way 2 year olds think, especially mine.
Playing at the park, we came in clothes and left in a wet diaper
Bribing my child to go on the potty with diet coke, it worked like a charm
Sawyer wanting to copy Tyson in everything that he does, including his hat for the pool
Sawyers favorite thing about Thursdays is SCOUTS! Tyson is the cub master and all the boys include Sawyer every week and Sawyer absolutely loves them. Last week they did a hike to an oasis behind our house.
