Street Fair and more

We have now lived here for a year, Tyson and I have been together for six, but I haven't been to the Palm Springs Street Fair since I was in High School. I think it always seems so far away to me, but now with my new baking job I am driving to PS twice a week and feel like its closer than half the errands that I run daily. We canceled scouts for the week (Tyson's church calling), and invited Colby and Sarah, the Ruckers, and the Biesingers to join us. We ate Falafels, some ate ice cream waffle sandwiches, frozen yogurt, and eyed everything we will get on our next trip there. I can't believe all this time I have been so close to something so fun and different than our usual nights out. We will be making this one a more frequent stop for sure. And, thanks to Lillie the amazing photographer for my pictures, because I am usually too lazy. Of course I took the ones with the flash that aren't as pretty because she doesn't do flashes, and I do whats easiest.

We also got to see my cousin Jamie and her husband Nate this week when they came out to check out USC for Nate, and visit Sarah and Colby here. We of course had to do El Gallito for dinner with them, and they were not disappointed. Seriously, the best nachos I have ever eaten in my life. We crave them like nothing else.

All Dogs go to Heaven

So after being the devoted Dog that Riley was for fourteen human years, my parents had to put him to sleep yesterday. Although I didn't really think that it would be something emotional for me considering I am not much of an animal lover, I am sad to know that he will no longer be keeping my parents company on a daily basis, nor me on my frequent visits. We definitely owe thanks to Ali, I don't know if she hadn't prayed for a dog every night if we would have ever even gotten Riley at all. My Dad definitely had a love for Riley, always making sure he was in our family pictures, and I am grateful for his loud barking when someone tried to steal Meiken's car from in front of our house. Riley...you will be missed in the Huish household.

Last week Katie and her kids decided to come and stay for a few days since Tanner was out of town and she would be alone for the week. It was a very fun and wild few days. Sawyer has always loved Reese and all her wildness. They played great together at the park, sharing toys, riding cars, reading books, and somewhat watching movies. Katie and I did a little project of making some frames for various rooms after the kids were asleep. It was a great couple of days. I wish we could have visitors out here in the HOT desert more often!

In the past few weeks we have not gone ANYWHERE without this suitcase of Sawyers. It is the first thing he asks about when he wakes up, only because I take it out of his crib after he falls asleep. Inside you will find: 2 little motorcycles, a cheerios car that he calls his race car (used during the scouts pinewood derby), about 10 mini airplanes with names for each one, and then a random extra toy which is sometimes a mickey mouse character or a pack of fruit snacks. This suitcase is used only to transport his toys from room to room, or house to car, but once he is in his new spot everything is unloaded, even if only for one minute. Lets hops this suitcase holds up well.

Oscar weekend

Every year Debbie has a wonderful Oscar party that I just couldn't miss. I drove down on Saturday to spend the weekend with my parents which is always a nice treat. My mom and I shopped and went through recipes for my new job. Sunday my dad was nice enough to watch Sawyer so that my mom and I could enjoy the party. I am embarrassed to say that I didn't even watch any of the show because I was too busy catching up with friends. It was very fun. Monday I got to meet Stace and all the Marston's at Disneyland for a few hours. Boy do I miss them all.

my life long dream

I have always had this dream of having my own cute little bakery, but realistically knowing that owning a jewelery business is enough work in itself, and I think Tyson's dreams of work are a little more important than mine. Well, I just got a job baking all of the desserts for a darling little restaurant/cafe in Palm Springs called Jake's Ready to Eat. I am so excited because I feel like this is a job without being a job, and I can do it with Sawyer napping right along side of me. If you are ever in the mood for cakes, cupcakes, cookies, or any other sweet treat you'll know where I think you should indulge. I sure hope they like my baking!

Top Gun

Sawyer has been very obsessed with airplanes for the past few months. He has a few little metal ones that he takes around everywhere with us, and he also has people making him paper airplanes constantly. Uncle Colby is the pro at those! Because of his new love my dad decided to go out and buy Top Gun on DVD so that he and Sawyer could have some bonding time. Sawyer loves it, and asks my dad to watch it over and over again when we are at their house, but as soon as the beginning with the airplanes is over, he's done.

Elder Jace Homec...Mexico Bound

We had a very fun last weekend with Jace before he headed to the MTC, and then off to Mexico. We are going to really miss Jacers. He has become a very important person to all of our family, especially these past few months. Sawyers loves when he comes over for dinner, or to babysit, and is always asking if Jacers can come over. I know he is going to be an amazing missionary, and an asset to the people of Mexico. We'll miss you Jace!

New Years Weekend

DAY ONE: New Years Eve

Everyone except for Collins came to my parents to spend New Years together since we had been at our in laws for Christmas. We had a very fun couple of days trying to get as many fun activities as we could in. New Years eve we went to dinner at an Italian restaurant by my parents house and then back home for yummy eclair cake and games.

DAY TWO: New Years Day

We normally have the tradition to play croquet on Christmas Day, but due to some of us not being able to participate we had round 2 on New Years day with everyone. It was so fun, and such a beautiful day.

This is the box that holds all the mallets that has our last name on it...my cousin had everything sent from New Zealand. He even has shirts made for everyone with this same logo.

DAY THREE: L.A.

Kim had never been to LA before so we decided to spend a day shopping and seeing some of the big city. We started at the Grove, me and Tyson's favorite, then drove down melrose, through Beverly Hills, saw the temple, went to Century City Mall, and then over to the airport so that Sawyer could watch the planes land. I love LA... I miss being able to spend time there.

DAY FOUR: The Newport Temple

Ali was nice enough to babysit Sawyer so that all of us adults could go to the temple. It was fun to be there as a family. After we went to Pei Wei for dinner which both Tyson and my Dad are obsessed with.


DAY FIVE: Craft Projects
Every time Kim and I get together we like to do some kind of craft for the house, so this time we (with the help of my mom) made a cute Valentines Day banner.

Three Christmases

So this year we were able to have a week long Christmas with our three families. We started with Tyson's Mom and Charles when they came down to spend the weekend with us from Arizona. We had a great weekend eating at our favorite restaurants out here in the desert, going to a street called "candy cane lane" in palm springs where all the homes on the street are decked out with lights, which of course Sawyer loved, and we played a few rounds of rummikub. It was a very fun weekend with everyone except Trent and Audry's family which we really missed.

Our next Christmas was with my family. Sawyer woke up on Monday morning and randomly threw up, but he still wanted to go to my parents house so we did. Tuesday we had Aunt Carolyn's annual Christmas party that I look forward to every year. We had probably only been there for about an hour when Sawyer threw up again, but this time all over me. We decided that it just wasn't going to work this year and so we got back in the car and drove home. I was so sad to miss all our traditions of reading the scriptures, the polar express, and seeing the drama of the tie exchange. I can't wait for next year.

Last and final Christmas was the real thing here at our home with Tyson's Dad and family. We had Christmas Eve dinner at Gary's, then came home and opened our pajamas. The next morning we woke up and opened presents at our house. Sawyer was more than thrilled to get the Laker's jersey that he has been asking for from Santa, and was most obsessed with the mini skateboards that my mom got him. Its funny how the littlest things can please him. After presents we went back to Gary's for their traditional juevos rancheros breakfast and then back again for a very nice dinner. We had a great holiday and loved being able to see almost all of our family.
